Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON)

GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) and FTTO (Fiber To The Office) are fiber optic technologies used to transmit data, but differ in their mode of operation and uses:

  • Network type: Passive Optical Network.

  • Features:
    • It uses a central optical fiber that is shared through passive splitters to multiple users.
    • It supports speeds up to 2.5 Gbps downlink and 1.25 Gbps uplink per connection.
    • It is ideal for providing broadband services to homes (FTTH - Fiber To The Home) and businesses.
    • It is widely used by telecom providers due to its low cost and the ability to serve several users with one fiber.

  • Architecture:
    • Fiber optic connects the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) in the provider's center to many Optical Network Units (ONU) or Optical Network Terminals (ONT) to users.

We have successfully implemented GPON solutions in PPC's power plants.
